Our fourth grade students have been working on creating a class book together in Language Arts class. This process really gave the students an opportunity to see what it is like to have a book published.
We brainstormed ideas together as a class about what topic the book should be about. Our morning class selected unique animals, in which they had to conduct research online to find out more information about the animal they selected. The afternoon class selected the creative idea of "what if..." The class worked together to think of ideas from a different perspective, and forced themselves to think outside of the box. After the students completed a draft, we had to carefully follow the directions from Student Treasures Publications to make sure we created a final draft that could go to print. The students were not only the authors but also the illustrators. Students were even able to write a short biography and draw a self portrait of themselves to be featured in the back of the book. We anxiously awaited our books to be delivered. Student Treasures sent us email updates along the way, where we got to see what it was like to have a book printed at the warehouse. Our books finally arrived and the cheers echoed down the hall! Each of the students clapped for each other as they saw their hard work proudly displayed in the final masterpiece. The students had a great time learning about the effort and time it takes to publish a book with a deadline. Ms. Pangborn and Mrs. Reistrom are proud of their students and the books they created. You truly are authors!

Genius hour is where you can research about anything you want to learn about individually. You need a lot of research on what you are going to write about and we are going to finish by the end of the school year and and present. This makes science more fun because you are learning about what you want to know about.
Written by: Grace O. Genius Hour is a very fun hour that we do once a week were you can research the topic of your choice. Some topics kids in our class chose were the New York Mets history. The history of cheer leading and the history of prehistoric animals. This makes the environment more happy and everyone energetic about science. written by: AJ What trustworthy means to me ... by Fabian Trustworthiness is like when someone told you to do an assignment and you do it right away and that someone awards you for listening to the directions. What trustworthy means to me ... by Mason I personally think that trustworthy is when you can trust and or rely on someone to do the right thing. If you follow directions maybe you can be the next star student! Everyone can be trustworthy if they do the right thing! The score was very close it was 17 to 21! This was a very fun game to watch, The maroon fans and the gray fans were yelling on the top of there LUNGS! Some people were yelling some of the teachers NAMES, like this. MRS VARRICCHIO,and MR HAUGHEY! But.. The maroon team won.
